Dar Kamar

The Hotel

Staying in modern Ouarzazate or doing so in the adobe houses of the Kasbah are altogether two different experiences. Dar Kamar- the Moon hose in Arabic is in the Taourirt Kasbah few paces away from the Glaoui´s palace, restored by the UNESCO. The adobe constructions and the narrow alleys closed to traffic used by neighbours and a few donkeys, allow us to relive the past. Dar Kamars´ great studded door to what was the Pacha´s palace of Justice, hides another world. A world of sensations, of aromas, of lights and shadows, of silence only slightly broken by the muezzin´s call to pray.
Every detail of the decor tastefully thought out, the rooms with decorated adobe walls, and the bathrooms covered in colourful tadelakt (Moroccon stucco) Having a cup of mint tea on the terrace looking onto the valley, feeling the breeze on one’s face gives one the impression that time has stopped.

Accessibility

The Kasbahs are not comfortable for wheel chairs, but the atmosphere in the hotel is very sensorial. Since March 2011 the hotel has the signs for bedroom numbers in relief as well as the signs for the communal bathrooms.

What to do?

 Activities

Any expedition in the area and in the whole country in 4x4 can be organised by the Hotel. They can take care of your program as from your arrival in Ouarzazate or Marrakech airports. The Atlas Mountains, the Saghro massif, the Todra or Dades gorges, a route through the old Kasbahs till the M´Hamid or the Merzouga dunes are some of the possibilities.

 Places To Visit

Ouerzazate is the transition between the Atlas and the desert landscapes. The Draa river goes through town and offers unusual nooks as is the Fint Oasis, along the river bed. A recommended visit is to the film studios in Ouerzazate, where amongst others Asterix an Obelix was filmed. Angelina JOLIE and Brad PITT stayed in the hotel during a film shoot.
