El Pla in Mallorca is, virtually, a spiritual reserve safe of urban bustle, and Es Convent d´Ariany is a privileged refuge in the smallest village on the island. This is not a usual hotel, and without renouncing to design or four star services, with rooms and apartments, all within a former convent, the premises are still run by a religious NGO. The Franciscan sisters arrived in Ariany in 1873. They built the convent and for a stretch of 120 years worked for education and health care of the inhabitants of Ariany. This went on until 2004, when the Administration took these services in hand. After studying the options which would allow the convent to continue functioning in a socially interesting way, it was decided to transform it into a small hotel. From here the intention is to encourage the recovery of ethnological patrimony important for the village, as well as inciting the integration of people with intellectual disability. They are taken on as gardeners, for cleaning and maintenance of the hotel. This is one of the tasks which the congregation develops for this social collective since 1963, through its Mater Misericordiae institution. From the totally accessible terrace and swimming pool, we have sun, calm and divine views over the Pla de Mallorca and its beautiful fields and steep slopes.
