The Hotel

The Saucelle waterfall (Salto de Saucelle), which regulates the river Douro on the frontier of Salamanca with Portugal, it used to have a small village where 500people lived. Saved from being torn down today it is a 14 hectare complex which has a 4 star hotel, individual houses or apartments, all with private gardens. A perfect setting for couples and families, it has private and social areas. In the compound there are a few outstanding sculptures of Angel Orensanz, these add a special contrast to the landscape. The hotel has 10 rooms to offer, with modern decoration, a spacious drawing room with a fireplace and a terrace overlooking the Douro river. Some of the rooms have private terraces, with views over the river. It is a privileged place for nature lovers, because the Arribes del Duero -Douro river- is a bird sanctuary. Black stork, vultures and many other species can be observed without leaving the compound. Within the premises the are 24 villas with one or two bedrooms, 4 apartments, an inn, the hotel we already mentioned, restaurant, swimming pool, outdoor terrace, church, spaces for meetings, conventions and events, as well as sport and leisure areas. A true village, in the middle of nature.


Accessibility

The hotel has a bathroom adapted to wheel chairs in the common areas and also an adapted room, most of the hotel is accessible to wheel chairs.6 apartments in individual houses are totally adapted to clients with reduced mobility.


What to do?

 Activities
Any open air sport. Swimming pool, grass football field, road bicycle or BTT,canoeing or kayaking in the Portuguese part of the Douro river. Boat rides along the Douro river canyons, ornithological tourism,( this is a special bird protection area, ZEPA), visits to ancient forts, trekking, visits to Portuguese historic villages such as Castelo Rodrigo or Almeida, spectacular viewpoints….In AldeadueroEnglish, yoga and meditation courses are organized. The compound has various spaces available for all sorts of events.
 Places To Visit
We are at the Portuguese frontier. There are villages with history around such as Freixode Espada¿¿ a?? Cinta or Lumbrales. The Ucles river canyon, in Mauseco, with a more than 50 metre waterfall. Fluvial cruises to Oporto from Barca d´Alva.


Gastronomy

 Cuisine
Aldeaduero has a restaurant which honours the Douro ¿¿Arribes?? denominationof origin wines and traditional cooking. All the meat is excellent and from theregion. The origin of denomination wines of the Douro ¿¿Arribes?? are the transition between the Ribera de Duero and the Port red wines, very corpulent and agreeable red wines.
 Typical Products
Hinojosa cheese, honey, jams, cold cuts and wines with origin denomination Arribes delDuero. Craftsmanship from Freixo de Espada á Cinta (silk, linen, wood…). In the hotel we have a shop with a lot to choose from.


Get directions 

By car from Salamanca: Dual carriageway A-62 towards Portugal. Continue until exit for La Fuente de San Esteban, (road SA-315) continue towards Vitigundino where you get onto CL-517 towards Lumbrales. Past Lumbrales, detour towards Hinojosa del Duero. In Honojosa del Duero, go to the centre of the village to take DSA-590 towards Salto deSaucell
